In this vlog we get spontaneous and go to the beach near Agde after visiting Carcassonne. We also go to Avignon to see the famous bridge.

Carcassonne

After our visit to Natalie’s parents, we get on the road again and drive to Carcassonne. We had rain most of the way and took a lot of small roads, so we had to drive carefully, but man, it was so beautiful!

Carcassonne has been on Natalie’s wishlist to see for a long time. She’s read Kate Mosse books about Carcassonne and wanted to see where they take place.

Carcassonne

So the next day we take out the bikes to visit the city. It’s windy but dry, and it’s a nice bike ride. But before we get to the medieval city, Marten realises he left the backpack with all the things in the camper and has to bike back.

Once in the city, we have a (not so great) lunch at a restaurant before going into the old part. It was amazing to walk over the cobblestones and through all the arches. The village has become really touristy, though, and we felt that did diminish the experience a little bit.

The beach at Agde

The weather suddenly changes, and it becomes sunny and WARM. And we spontaneously decide to go to the beach instead of driving to Avignon. We drive to a camping ground next to the beach and enjoy some sea, sun and chilltime before driving to the next city.

We love nature around here, with loads of nesting birds in the vicinity of the camping. We have a long walk in the sun; it even gets a bit too hot for us.

Sunset at the beach near Agde

After seeing an amazing sunset at the beach, we try to get up early to see the sun rise over the beach, but it turns out the sun rises over the village. But it was still a fun experience, and nice to see the sun come up.

Avignon

We drove from Agde to Avignon, taking the scenic route. With on our right hand the Mediterranean sea and on the left side several lakes. The lakes were abundantly full of flamingos, which we didn’t quite expect. Though the route was a bit disappointing, seeing those magnificent birds made up for it.

Natalie’s new sunhat

We get the tip from the concierge at our campsite that Villeneuve-Lès-Avignon has a great market. This small village has a big weekly market, and we have fun looking at all the stalls. Natalie even gets a chance to buy a sunhat!

In next week’s vlog, we visit the city of Avignon.
