In this video, we visit park at Lac d’Annecy, and discover Annecy by bike before saying goodbye to France.
Alpe d’Huez
We start our vlog at the location we ended our previous one, at a campground at the Alpe d’Huez. It is still very rainy, and we spent most of our time inside the camper.
A few days later, when it is finally dry, we hike up one of the mountains but have to turn around as the path becomes too steep, and Natalie’s fear of heights takes over. The hike was supposed to be doable but after 250 height meters, we still have about 130 to go…
Lac d’Annecy
After spending almost a week at the 5-star camping, it’s time to leave. We drive to a campsite near Annecy, at the lake, before crossing the border to Switzerland.
Isa enjoys having all this water at her fingertips (or is it paw tips?) and all the attention from the other campers.
Marten goes for another bike ride. He wasn’t allowed to go up the Alpe d’Huez because of the bad conditions, but the difficult parkour at Annecy totally made up for it.
Afterwards, we visit the colourful village of Annecy. Annecy is famous for the castle in the middle of the shallow river. Natalie has been to Annecy before, and it is fun to recognise all the different places from a trip she took 10 years before.
Even in the late afternoon, it is still very hot, and all the ice cream parlours are doing great business.
Time to say goodbye to France
The next day we drive to the border of Switzerland, but before we cross, we reflect on our time in France.
We’ve spent the last five weeks in the country and had a great time exploring the country. We visited many pretty villages and had a lovely time visiting Natalie’s family. We went to famous medieval cities, and Marten biked up the Mont Ventoux. We had some very variable weather during our days, but we enjoyed it all.
Marten discovered that the myth ‘France is beautiful, but the people are not nice’ isn’t true. When you try to speak French as a foreigner, you will find that most people are agreeable, lovely, and friendly.
