In this video, we drive from Denmark to Sweden, as we decided last week to drive north through Sweden. And on the way, we run into some unexpected Swedish traditions.
Crossing from Denmark to Sweden
To go to Sweden, we take a bridge and a ferry over to the other side instead of two bridges. We thought this would be cheaper, but in the end, it didn’t make much difference. However, crossing the border in the middle of the canal was fun.
We drive a bit upwards and end up in Älmhult. This is actually where IKEA was first launched and there is an IKEA museum. We intend to go there, but our plans change the moment we arrive.
See, when we arrived at the village, it was busy. It was very clear something was going on, an event, but we didn’t know what yet. And the camping was full, overflowing full, with even caravans and motorhomes on the parking next to it.
Luckily the camping was helpful and found us a spot with electricity. It wasn’t an official spot, but it worked. And then told us about the event.
South Swedish Rally
The South Swedish Rally was in town, and the whole weekend there were races everywhere in the forests around the village. To know exactly where you have to buy a magazine with all the information, we went to one of the rallies.
It was so cool to see all these cars flying by! And the amount of rubble that flew up! Sometimes you had to protect your eyes and could hardly see the cars!
Chilling in the sun
After the excitement, we drove further north and went to a campground near a lake for some chill time. There were a lot of household tasks that needed to happen: dishes, laundry, vacuuming, cleaning and then there was work. We stayed at this campsite for a few days to take care of everything.
I also taught Marten some yoga poses, and Marten decided to try out a Swedish tradition of cold water swimming, butt naked.
