In this video, we visit several amazing locations in Switzerland after our time in Lauterbrunnen.
Navigating gone wrong
From Lauterbrunnen, we wanted to drive to Aareschlucht, and Natalie had set out a route south of the Brienzersee. But it turned out that there was no route except a toll road on that side, and we don’t have a Swiss vignette. So in Iseltwald, we get stuck and have to turn around.
But Iseltwald was a charming village next to the lake, so we had a lovely time walking through there before turning around and taking the route north of the lake.
The beauty of the Aareschlucht
The Aareschlucht (Aare Gorge) is a gorge made by the river Aare through limestone. We parked our camper on the campsite near the gorge so we could walk there early the following day. We were so early that we were the first ones there, giving us incredible views with no one around.
The path of the Aare Gorge looks alarming; most of it is made from wood, over the river, hanging from the sides of the gorge. Natalie’s fear of heights was diminished by the gorgeousness of the gorge and our awe of Mother Nature.
The path took us to the other side of the mountain, and we took the train back to our original spot. It’s lovely that this train ticket is included in your entrance fee.
Luzern
A few days later, we take a bus from a campground to Luzern. The city has been recommended to us by many people, and so we want to see why everyone is raving about this place.
Luzern is most famous for the wooden bridge that crosses the river and all of its old houses. A lot of houses are coloured or have paintings on them.
The city also has a lovely, welcoming, friendly vibe. And though it is hard to find a good place for lunch, we love walking around this incredible city for the day.
Wine tasting in Germany
We also get some rough news and decide to drive to the Netherlands for friends of ours. On our way home, we park on a camper spot near a wine field and find out we can do a wine tasting there.
It’s quite nifty. All bottles are in a machine, and you can check which wine you want to taste, push a button, and a small bit of wine comes out. We also got score cards to notice which wines we loved. We end up buying quite a few bottles that are coming on our trip with us.
